We didn’t die

What’s the best local dish you’ve ever eaten while traveling?

After high school graduation, in 2000, my sister, mom and I went to France. It was my first trip to Europe.

Per mom’s travel guidance, we did mostly the main-stream things. Safe restaurants. Safe tours. Safe museum visits.

It was safely bland.

Part way through the trip, we met up with friends from back home. After discussing where to go for dinner, we ended up in a basement restaurant that would have definitely not been considered “safe”.

It was dark. It was off the beaten path. And it was amazing.

I had a ravioli dish with pink sauce. No, I do not remember either the name of the restaurant or the name of the dish.

I wish I could.
