Who’s in charge here?

1–2 minutes

What do you do to improve your sleep?

It took me a little bit to believe that I am actually in charge of my brain. Understand conceptually? Yes, that part was easy. But to truly believe it and put that belief to use? That was a little bit of work.

I’ve had issues with insomnia for a long time. Junior-high long time.

I was perpetually in tomorrow-and-yesterday-land. Neither of those places are good for sleepy time.

So I built a happy place in my head. It isn’t quite Sherlock’s mind palace, but similar.

The place I go to when I can’t sleep is loosely based on the Maryland Renaissance Fair. I have a cottage back my Fox’s Theater and it kinda looks like it’s above one of the leather everything shops. There are no people, just the quiet of the woods and the feel of home.

I zonk out every time.
