Who was your most influential teacher? Why?
Experience is said teacher.
As a parent, nothing is more frustrating than watching my kids do the same stupid things I did. But then I remind myself that I wouldn’t have learned from my parents’ stories of their mistakes either. So, there we go.
I have stumbled my way through. Successful or not, I have stumbled forth boldly.
In all honesty, my most influential teacher was my 6th grade teacher Rick Wormeli. For so many reasons. He inspired, motivated, challenged and brought out something shiny in each of us. My love of reading was nurtured and grew under his careful eye. Authors that I still love today were introduced that year. And my forever favorite, the story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, still soars around in my memory.
I’m sure I wasn’t the easiest of students. I don’t imagine the most difficult, either. But I am honored that I could be apart of his classroom.
Yes, he’s fine. This isn’t “one of those” speeches.
