Are you superstitious?
Most modern folks don’t know why we do the superstitions things we do. They just do them as learned actions.
For example:
Why do we knock on wood for good luck?
Ask anyone. Dunno…
Knocking on wood originates way, way back when it was believed that trees housed fairies or sprites that would grant luck of protection if we knocked on or touched their trees.
Makes me feel bad when I’m out discussing golfing a I hurl a round slice of plastic directly (not on purpose) into a tree. I do apologize.
Another one:
Making a wish as birthday candles are blown out.
Get out the torches, this one is pre-christian also.
Candles’ smoke (and incense) was said to take the wishes, prayers and thoughts to the gods. Imagine little Jenny’s wish for a pony traveling via pink sparkling candle smoke all the way to Mount Olympus.

Am I superstitious?
I don’t lose sleep of it, no.
But I am a student who enjoys the origins of brain nuggets.
I also have a black cat. 🖤
