I had to google this. What, you may ask? Inventions in the last 40 years. Yes, I’m about that old.
Most of the top ones are internet related. Www. Social media. Stuff like that. I cannot lie, I was in AOL chat rooms as soon as they were a thing. Email? Sign me up!
For those of us who were around BI, the internet seemed somewhat indescribable. At the beginning. Dial up was slow, data was expensive, and online anonymity was thrilling.
Now, for most of us, dial up is unimaginable, data is cheap, and our names and faces are either made up or photoshopped.
Is this truly what the internet was supposed to be? Probably not. But like I’ve been saying for years: the best thing about indie publishing is that anyone can do it. That’s also the worst thing.
As far as how that ties into the great and powerful “Interwebs”? It is a very scary place. Yes, everything we want is at our fingertips. So is everything else.
PSA, if you didn’t already know, if you don’t want your information online, don’t put it there. Even “private” sites are not truly private.
