What makes a good leader?
About 20 years ago, we had this couple with their young daughter over to the house. They were the “we own expensive things, so we must have more value” type of people. Their daughter was coming down the stairs not holding onto the railing. He mother chided her and then complained that said daughter never listens. Why can’t she listen?
So I turned to her and asked, “Well, what do you do?”
Silence.
Apparently, I had never dawned on Ms Expensive that he daughter was learning by her examples. She can’t be bothered to hold the railing, why would her daughter?
I wear silly hats when it’s cold, because I want my kids to also wear their hats when it’s cold. I hold the staircase railing, and so do they.
When I ran the service desk, I’d answer phones and do tickets when it was busy. I make it a point to never ask someone to do something I’m not willing to do.
Do I know all of things that make a great leader? No. Nobody does. But I think I know a little.
Happy Sunday. If you are in Demi’s path, stay warm!
