I’m not going to lie, two reasons that this article got my attention, the first can likely be guessed by my regular readers, the second… I had no idea what deus ex machina is.
While none of King’s books that I have read to date (I have only read a fraction) employ this saving grace method, what does come to mind is eagles. Tolkein’s eagles keep saving everyone, and they do come from the sky.
